How long are the sessions?

Sessions are usually 50 minutes. EMDR sessions may run to 90 minutes.

How much does a counselling session cost?

Fees for a 50 minute counselling session are $185 from 1st August 2022 . If the client has a Mental Health Care Plan from their GP, they may be able to claim a rebate from Medicare. The current rebate for a 50 minute clinical psychology consultation is $131.65.

What happens in the first session?

Initially, paperwork is completed. Michelle will then ask what has brought the client to therapy, their insight into the problem, and possibly a family history. Michelle will then propose a plan for tackling the presented issues and ask for the client's agreement to the proposed plan.

Are sessions confidential?

Clinical Psychology sessions are confidential, unless the client reports that they are going to harm themselves or someone else, a child has been physically or sexually abused, or the clinical psychologist has been served with a subpoena by a court. In such cases, the client's next of kin, GP, psychiatrist, The Department of Communities or the police may need to be notified.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No, however if you would like to be able to claim a Medicare Rebate, you will need to get a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP.
